St Tims at the Wave
Standing on Westminster Bridge with a pair of blue plastic gloves on and waving madly in the air is not something I usually do on a Saturday but I did it yesterday. I went with four others from St Timothy’s, to join with approximately 50,000 others, in a national demonstration against climate chaos. The march started in Grosvenor Square and ended with protestors circling the Houses of Parliament. On the stroke of 3pm everyone waved madly and made a lot of noise to give a clear signal that this issue matters and affects everyone.
For those whose motivation is their faith in a Creator God who loves all creation, there was a service in Westminster Central Hall to set the tone for the day’s march. The Archbishop of Canterbury gave a short address telling us we need be ‘good news for all creation’ and that as a human race we have failed so far to attend to the health of creation. He was bold enough to say that we should be prepared to live less comfortably as we strive to re-address the balance across the globe.
London is a long way to go for a day but I went because I felt it was important to add my voice to everyone else’s in order to send a strong message to political leaders ahead of the historic Climate Change talks that begin in Copenhagen tomorrow.
