Weddings and Marriage Blessings
We welcome inquiries about Weddings or Marriage Blessings at St Tims.
Many people find the solemnity and beauty of a church a fitting place to begin their married life together.
A marriage service lasts for about 45 minutes and helps to place the great step of marriage in the comfort and strength of God’s Love for us. Often there is a great sense of peace and joy – what better start to married life!
Philip our Vicar cannot legally marry all enquirers – here is a list of valid qualifications:
- You or your fiance live in the parish. You can check here if you live in the Parish
- You or your fiance are on the church electoral roll (to qualify for this you will have habitually attended the church for at least 6 months)
According to the new marriage laws of 2008, you can also be married in St Tim’s if one of you has the following qualifying connections:
(a) the person was baptised in that parish (unless the baptism took place in a combined rite which included baptism and confirmation) or is a person whose confirmation has been entered in the register book of confirmation for any church or chapel in that parish;
(b) the person has at any time had his or her usual place of residence in that parish for a period of not less than six months;
(c) that person has at any time habitually attended public worship in that parish for a period of not less than six months;
(d) had his or her usual place of residence in that parish for a period of not less than six months
(e) a parent of that person has during the lifetime of that person has habitually attended public worship in that parish for that period; or
(f) a parent or grandparent of that person has been married in that parish.
For the purposes here, a “parent” includes an adoptive parent and any other person who has undertaken the care and upbringing of the person seeking to establish a qualifying connection and “grandparent” shall be construed accordingly.
If for any reason you are not legally allowed to be married at St Tims, Philip would happily consider a Service of Blessing for a Marriage that has been conducted elsewhere.
If you have been married before please contact Philip before making any arrangements. You can reach him on 0114 266 1745, or email him.
The total cost of a Wedding is in the range from £310 – £478 depending on the amount of “extras” – and Philip will be happy to supply details if you wish to take things further.
