This concert was in order to raise money for our organ fund.  It took place on 17 October 2009 at St Timothy’s church.    It was a marvellous evening of entertainment and we managed to raise around £300.

The selection of music was delightful.  All those who took part did a splendid job.  Sarah our Curate on piano, Matthew on the piano, the choir, and Martin played organ, viola and piano.   The interval consisted of cheese and wine which added to the occasion.

Matthew played Beethoven’s  Sonata no. 8 Pathetique in which he managed to pull off this very technical and emotional piece; and then played the beautiful Debussy’s Clair de Lune which was a pleasure to listen to.

Included in the programme was a piece which Martin had composed whilst a student in Durham.  It was wonderful to hear him playing it, and to know that he had actually composed it was even better.

It was lovely to see Sarah in a different role and looking like she was in her element.  She played a Mozart sonata beautifully and an effective piece by Ravel was interpreted very skillfully.

The Queen of Sheba (for 4 hands) was marvellous.  Seeing and hearing the two resident piano teachers playing was truly a delight.

It was a most enjoyable evening, professionally done  and I would definitely recommend getting hold of a cd of this concert.

Thanks to everyone involved; I really enjoyed this. Have rediscovered Beethoven’s piano sonatas as a result, for which I’m very grateful!
