I started off on Saturday morning feeling excited, and didn’t  know it would be as hard as it was.  We built our slums which was really fun, it showed a lot of team work.  For lunch we had dhal and rice  with water to drink.  The food didn’t go down very well, especially with me!

We did a few activities including playing a game of football made out of carrier bags and string, which ended up breaking, so we played with a normal one.  The privilege for the winning team was a jug of juice, by this point everyone was so desperate for juice, all you could hear through the game was people shouting juice, and it was a really long game.  Our team lost, and David and I didn’t even want to play, but we ended up with juice anyway.  I have never appreciated a cup of juice so much!

My hay fever was really bad in one eye so I could hardly open it.  It looked like I had been punched in the eye.  Our  lovely friends came to give us moral support: Terry waved a bag of chips at us as he drove past, Andrew and Radha came round with a glass of wine, Anna drank a bottle of Lucozade in front of me and then the ice cream man came round the block!  All these things made me realise how lucky we actually are.

It was dhal and rice for tea, which some people including me didn’t eat.  Then we had a big fire which was really nice.

When we went to bed we had cardboard over the tarmac.  It was pretty uncomfortable and I was really cold and we were only aloud a sleeping bag.  I didn’t get much sleep.  By Sunday morning David and I especially felt really miserable, I couldn’t wait for 11.00 to come (ending time).  It was dhal and rice for breakfast, which most people skipped and got breakfast later.

The thing I have learned the most is how lucky we are and how much we need to appreciate things more.
