St Timothy's Church, Crookes, Sheffield

Welcome

Our 2020 Vision:

Burning Brighter and Deeper

Doubling People and Passion

Our soon to be Licensed Vicar, Revd Malcolm Lambert and his wife, Ruth have sent us this new message:

At the moment I’m surrounded by boxes as I juggle preparing to move, saying goodbye and handing over responsibilities in my current parish. Packing up and moving is always a busy time. It’s taken a bit longer than we had hoped, but we’re nearly there now! Just two weeks until we move to Sheffield.  Thank you to the Diocesan housing team for all the work that’s been done getting the Vicarage ready.  We are really looking forward to settling in, meeting you all and getting to know the St Tim’s church family and the Crookes community.  The welcome service is at 7.30pm on Monday June 25th. We are delighted that Bishop Pete is coming to St Tim’s to lead this for us.

I want to say a big “thank you” to Di and Jane our churchwardens, Roger and Ellen and to Pauline our administrator. They have all been fantastic – with lots of practical help and answers to all my questions.  Together we’ve started to think about what needs to happen in the first few weeks, a service plan for the summer, and future priorities.

I will be licensed as “interim priest in charge” for three years. It is an “interim” appointment because 5 local churches have agreed to work together as a Mission Partnership, and share 4 incumbents between them.  (They are St Tim’s, St Mark’s Broomhill, St John’s Ranmoor, St Mary’s Walkley, and The Vine.)  I have been asked to take a lead in the process of deciding how the new Mission Partnership will work, and what clergy roles will be within it. The target date for agreement is the end of next year, so this definitely needs to be one of our priorities.

The other major challenge is our 2020 Vision – “Burning Brighter and Deeper – Doubling People and Passion.”  We want to build on all the good work that has been done so far. We want to grow the church in numbers and spiritual depth; develop the various ministry teams; encourage new people into leadership;  offer opportunities and training for new preachers and ministries;  reach out into the local community.  So there is clearly plenty to keep me busy!

Thank you again for all the prayers, support and encouragement we have already received. We are really excited about this new start, and seeing what God has in store for us.   See you soon!

Malcolm and Ruth Lambert

About St Timothy’s

We’re a local church community, with people of all ages and backgrounds, running a wide range of activities throughout the week in addition to our Sunday Worship.

Our passion is to build a growing church, energised by God’s love in a troubled world. Our symbol is a harbour lighthouse.   God has helped us find safe harbour – we hope we can help others do the same!

To enable this, we have different adults and young people’s ministries growing the life of our church community, and others reaching into the wider community.

If you are new to Sheffield, new to the area, or simply looking for a church, you’re very welcome to try us out.  Come and join us at any of our three Sunday services or at Wednesday communion held in the Side Chapel at 12pm (noon).

The Church Centre is open Tuesday to Friday mornings, so come and have a look round, or join us for a coffee and cake at our Friday Cafe, 3pm to 6pm during term time.
